What is Post Fire Decontamination?
When a property gets damaged by fire, extremely harmful toxic fumes build up inside which penetrate the entire structure.
Any subsequent cleaning activity therefore should be undertaken by a specialist contractor using adequate protective equipment.
Also, testing must be done to determine whether any asbestos is present which may further increase the health risk.
If confirmed, it is a legal requirement that all debris containing asbestos must be removed (and disposed of) by a contractor holding an accredited license.

What are the risks surrounding Post Fire Decontamination?
If asbestos is present post fire structure, there are several health risks present.
Asbestos is dangerous when its fibres are disturbed, released into the air and then inhaled.
Health studies indicate that breathing high levels of asbestos fibres can lead to an increased risk of certain types of lung cancers – but if asbestos fibres are properly enclosed within a product, then there are no significant health risks.
